Learn how the architectural heritage of the Ming and Qing capitals survives amid the Olympic venues of 2008. Robert Thorp will discuss his recent book Visiting Historic Beijing: A Guide to Sites and Resources, researched and written as a member of the U.S. team that, together with the Institute of Archaeology Beijing, surveyed China's Anyang region. While the city of Beijing has been transformed in recent decades, it is today richer in protected historic sites and monuments than in any time in recent history.
