Working at SIS

The Visiting Scholars will be housed on or near Peking University and be integrated into the School's academic programs. Visitors are encouraged to jointly teach courses with SIS faculty members and are welcomed to participate in other scholarly activities. Each is expected to hold at least one talk at the School during the visit, and to submit a research paper in either Chinese (around 5,000 characters) or English (around 2,500 words) toward the end of the visit.

SIS will make it possible for the visiting scholars to enter the People's Republic of China. It will provide the scholars with office space and use of facilities. Upon request, SIS will help visiting scholars establish contact with other Chinese academic institutions and government officials.

Financial Support

SIS will provide a monthly stipend of US$2,000, as well as a roundtrip air ticket (economy class) from the scholar's residence to Beijing. Visitors are financially responsible for their own housing.

Acceptance

After the applications are received, opinions are sought on the applicants' research plans from specialists at SIS and elsewhere. Finally, the choice of the Visiting Scholar is made by a faculty committee composed of professors of the main fields in international studies at SIS.

SIS will send out the decision letter no later than April 15 for receiving the Visiting Scholar for the autumn term, or November 15 for the spring term
