Opportunties for U.S. scholars, 2009-10

China - Support for projects on either modern or pre-modern China. A portion of the grant period may be spent in Hong Kong or Taiwan. Grants are for 3-10 months, starting September 2009 or later.

Hong Kong - Conduct research on some aspect of Hong Kong life including politics, business, economics, public policy, public administration, modern history, environmental studies (non-science), urban studies, education, communication, journalism and media, or cultural life including literature and the arts. Projects may also focus on the relationship between Hong Kong and southern China. Grants are for 4-6 months, starting September 2009 or later.

Macau - Engage in advanced research that results in a significant original contribution to understanding Macao's history and development, Macao's relations with mainland China or Macao's role in East-West relations. Share professional expertise (no more than 30 hours) in a series of lectures or seminars or a workshop. Grant recipients are expected to prepare and submit an original paper of 8,000-12,000 words within three months of the end of the grant. Grants are for 4-6 months, starting September 2009 or later.

Taiwan - Conduct research in any area of the social or behavioral sciences, the humanities, arts, media, creative industry, business or education that is relevant to understanding current conditions in Taiwan and that has to be carried out in Taiwan. Projects may also be in classical or contemporary Chinese studies. Grants are for 2-10 months, starting July 2009 or later.

At least three years experience beyond the Ph.D.
