Our Mission

The USC U.S. - China Institute aims to enhance understanding of the 21st century’s definitive and multidimensional relationship through

cutting-edge research which

  • takes on central trends and issues affecting U.S. – China relations
  • utilizes interdisciplinary approaches
  • is social science-based and policy-relevant
  • involves undergraduate and graduate students

innovative graduate and undergraduate training which

  • involves students in producing rather than merely consuming knowledge
  • infuses the exploration of important trends and issues affecting the U.S. – China relationship across the curriculum
  • includes development of new graduate degree programs and undergraduate minors

extensive and influential public events and professional development efforts including

  • organizing major conferences, workshops, and exhibitions
  • developing internship opportunities for USC students in business, journalism, health care, and other areas
  • providing in-service training for K-12 teachers, journalists, government officials, businesspeople, and others
