AAJA Texas – 2009 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
AAJA Texas is awarding one $1,000 student scholarship in 2009 to a student who displays: Journalistic ability, commitment to journalism, awareness of Asian-American issues, and scholastic ability.
Eligibility
Must be a graduating high school senior, or an undergraduate or graduate college student planning to attend an accredited college or university during the 2008-2009 school year. Must either be a resident of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma or New Mexico, or attending college in one of those states. You don’t have to be an AAJA member to apply, but we’ll pay your first-year membership if you win. Financial need is not a criterion.
To apply, please send in a single packet:
• Typed or printed application form with required essays
• Most recent official transcript
• Two letters of recommendation
• Résumé
• Work samples:
a) Print students: Three legible clips (include jump) on 8.5’’ by 11’’ paper.
b) Print photojournalism students: Three to five prints/slides with captions or descriptions. Electronic applications with Powerpoint presentations are permitted. Email to abatheja@star-telegram.com
c) Design journalism students: Three to five samples of design work. Electronic applications with samples of work in PDF format permitted. Email to abatheja@star-telegram.com
d) Television broadcast students: Two taped VHS or DVD excerpts with scripts
e) Television photojournalism students: Two edited VHS or DVD excerpts
f) Radio broadcast students: Three taped cassette – or CD -- excerpts with scripts
g) Web journalism students: Three legible online articles. Clips must be on 8.5’’-by-11’ inch paper.
h) You may also submit a combination of the above.
Deadline
• Applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2009
